Elizabeth K. Bransdorfer
Michigan Family Law Attorney 38+ years
As a former Chair of the State Bar of Michigan Family Law Section and current co-chair of its Dedicated Family Court Committee, I have spent a significant amount of time working to communicate how important good judges are to the thousands of Michigan families who interact with our courts every year. The Section cannot and will not endorse any particular candidate, and this endorsement is my personal opinion based, in large part, on my work with Steve while he served on the Family Law Section Council. I believe Steve would serve the citizens of St. Clair County as a judge from a position of lengthy and dedicated experience representing families in the Family Divisions of numerous circuits. His work ethic and knowledge are exceptional.

Elizabeth Sadowski
Michigan Family Law Attorney 40+ years
I am a family law attorney with over 30 years of practice in our state. I am a past chair of the Family Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan and have served on numerous State Bar committees.
As a 30+ year family law practitioner and a prior Chair of our State Bar Family Law Section, I have witnessed firsthand the consequences of decisions by family division judges who lack sufficient experience in domestic relations cases. While these individuals may possess otherwise commendable credentials, without sufficient experience in family law they are often bad decision-makers in this arena. It is critically important that those who sit on the family division bench know what they are doing because their decisions deeply affect the lives of the parents, children, and families in crisis who come before them. The job of a family division judge is demanding and stressful. It is not a place for neophytes or aspiring appointees who view the position as merely a stepping stone toward a seat in a different, and less demanding, circuit court division. Judicial errors in family law cases can have serious consequences, as seasoned practitioners know.
The good news is that Attorney Steven Arnold Heisler, a highly respected colleague, is seeking the appointment to the 31st Circuit Court Family Division seat that was vacated by the Hon. Elwood Brown. Steve’s expertise lies in divorce, custody, children’s law (abuse/neglect), and adoptions – precisely the areas that Judge Brown has presided over. Steve’s appointment to this position would be a seamless transition for the good of the families on the docket Steve would inherit.
I have had the privilege of working closely with Steve as co-chair on our family law section technology committee, and I can attest to his exceptional technological competence, his advanced intellect, his grasp of the complex issues of law, and his generous spirit. His background in developing part of the E-9-1-1 system in Macomb County demonstrates his concern for the safety of families in the community. His familiarity with multiple programming languages will him a valuable asset in advancing court technology.
While Steve’s grasp of the ever-changing statutes, rules, and case law in family law is unparalleled, it is Steve’s compassionate understanding of the difficult and sometimes life-threatening situations that families in divorce and custody cases face that sets him apart from other candidates. Having worked and lived in St. Clair County for many years, Steve is intimately acquainted with the character and needs of the community where he would serve. Appointing Steven Heisler to the 31st Circuit Court bench would be a commendable decision and one that would reflect our Governor’s highest principles. His appointment would reflect a commitment to ensuring that our family division bench is comprised of individuals who possess the necessary skills, experience, and empathy to make informed decisions that profoundly impact the lives of families. Please consider appointing Steven Arnold Heisler to the position of judge of the State of Michigan’s 31st Circuit Court.
Alicia Storm
Michigan Family Attorney & Mediator
I was born and raised in Port Huron, and my mother (Mary Beth Black) was a powerhouse attorney in St. Clair County, advocating for families. As a lawyer myself, it is important to me that competent and fair judges are elected to their positions. As a citizen, it is also important to me who sits in the judge’s seat because their decisions have ripple effects across the community. I grew up in Port Huron and still love my hometown. Steven Heisler is exactly the type of person you want sitting in a judge’s seat. He is hardworking, considers all angles, and is not quick to make snap decisions. St. Clair County can ask for no better than Steven Heisler, and I support his run for the judiciary wholeheartedly.
